How can the logo be used for 3rd party applications?
The best guideline for using the Spectre name and graphical marks at present are:
You'll note that the GPL license does not include any trademark grants. A quick web search on trademark in open-source will reveal that although you may fork a (GPL) licensed application and redistribute it, doing so does not grant you access to using the product's marks freely (example). In summary, you're likely limited to fair use or whatever special license you can arrange with the author (me) directly.
If you can expand upon your interest in using the Spectre name or logo, it might help illustrate whether the current framework is sufficient.
Okay. Here is the repository I am working on right now.
I am using your code to distribute a GPL project. I for now it is in a really early stage. So there is no credit page yet. I will mention your code their.
Maybe you can look over it and tell me when there are issues.
That looks like a great initiative!
What I will probably do is write a conditional grant for Spectre trademarks so that it is clear in what context (such as, for instance, under Free Software redistribution) the Spectre trademarks can be used in reference and under what stipulations, so as to enable and encourage projects like yours.
I'll have to speak with my lawyer as well. I'll keep you posted.
