This is coinciding with a time in history where power, wealth and change are driven by economic forces, not moral, religious or interpersonal ones.
The inevitable result is an economy of personal data, one where everything is free (as in beer) but nothing is free (as in freedom). We pay nothing for the privilege of being manipulated by giant computer algorithms for the benefit of power dynamics that are beyond us.
And yet, as technology appears to be the inevitable driver here, it can also be the solution.
